Let’s take back “Make America Great Again”. Make it the people’s slogan, make it the left’s slogan, give it meaning, and take it away from the right.

Let’s follow a general pattern of saying what one (maybe a related few) aspect of greatness would be, making clear that we’re speaking of one aspect among many. Starting examples, not carefully written here:

  • A great country is a leader in research. It funds important research, moves valuable findings to production rapidly and safely, and provides the benefits to the whole world.

  • A great country ensures that every individual, everywhere, has access to nourishing food …

  • A great country has affordable housing for every individual …

  • A great country provides high quality health care to every person, everywhere, …

  • A great country has work available for all those who desire work, with compensation that can readily support a family with one ordinary job …

  • A great country finds ways to reduce the need for labor, while providing improving life situations for those who do not work, as well as those who do …

  • A great country operates from abundance rather than scarcity, providing improving benefits to all, while reducing reliance on labor …

  • A great country provides the same benefits for every person, regardless of any distinguishing aspect such as wealth, skin color, sexual orientation, disability, …

  • A great country gives every individual, everywhere, the ability to do work they enjoy, not because they must, but for the joy of doing it. (If there’s work no one enjoys, some of us will enjoy building machines to do that work.)

  • A great country provides due process and full legal protection for every person, whether citizen or not …

… you get the idea.

I’m imagining enough commonality in the format, always referencing “great”, possibly always “make America great again”, from citizens and politicians alike, to “flood the zone” with good ideas instead of bad, positive ideas instead of bias- and fear-mongering.

It’s not that simple, nothing is. But more and more people are seeing that MAGA isn’t working. Let’s give them something to be for.

Probably the strongest comeback will be scarcity thinking: “we can’t afford that”. It’s clear that we can, though some things may need to change. Each cry needs to address the affordability somehow. But we can clearly afford to do much better than we’re doing today.

Could this work if it happened? Could it be made to happen? I think so.

Let’s work together to make America, and the world, great. Again, or for the first time, either way. We can do it!
