Things on my Shelves
Here are some things from my shelves. Pictures mostly here for interest, but also because I may try to sell some of these items. If you’re interested, contact me.
Quite some years ago, I was an avid knife collector. I have a number of ordinary items, some excellent folders, and a few very artistic “fantasy” items. Here are some of the interesting ones.
“Sorry for potato”. These pictures are taken with my iPhone, in normal light, and it isn’t even that good an iPhone. Better pictures, taken by a real photographer, will soon follow and replace these. And I see now that I need to include something for scale. Live and learn.
Chris Reeve Fixed Blade
This is a black fixed-blade knife which I bought directly from Chris at a Knife show, probably the Blade show, probably in Florida. If I recall, he told me that the wood inlay is African Rosewood. It’s definitely red. The knife is marked CR 1, and is, I believe, one of a kind. Searches on the internet for Chris’s knives reveal nothing like this. It is quite unique among all his knives.
Virgil England
Shantu Skate and Hawks-Bill
Virgil has created a wide range of fantasy items from a universe he calls “The Hetlands”. These three items are pieces from that universe. The larger is called Shantu Skate. I don’t remember the name of the smaller knife, but I bought them as a set. They are multiples: these are manufactured knives, made in China, not hand made. You may be able to see, in the background, a little neck knife called “Hawks-Bill”. I’ll take a separate picture of that in due time.
I also have a lovely one-of-a-kind fantasy knife from Virgil, called Mantis, which I’ll show you in a moment.
Elishewitz Damasteel Folder
This is a nice Damasteel folder by Elishewitz. It has carbon-fiber inlaid scales. The handle is anodized a light purple on the edges and the pins between the sides are red.
(I had said it was Damascus. Apparently it is Damasteel, a commercial Damascus-like metal.)
